About Marissa
Hello, I’m Marissa, a certified Youth Resilience Facilitator who guides young people to their own insights about their minds, helping them uncover the well of peace, clarity, and wisdom within themselves.
I hold a bachelor's degree in political science and history. My passion for culture and making a difference inspired me to join the United States Peace Corps in central Africa; this is where my meditation journey truly began. During those two years, I lived in a mud brick, thatched roof dwelling without running water or electricity in an isolated village. I struggled emotionally and began meditating. A well of peace began to permeate my life despite the challenges I faced. I realized this inner revolution is what is most important when considering peace in our community and our world. This is what I am inspired to share with others today.
I grew up and currently reside in Ventura County, California, with my husband and two daughters. Alongside private academic and mindfulness teaching, I volunteer at the Camarillo Buddhist Center, where I lead the monthly youth group and manage social media.
When I’m not teaching or volunteering, I enjoy discussing the nature of mind with my meditation group and mentor, Bhante Sutadhara, a Buddhist monk. I also cherish spending time with extended family and playing farm with my children at my grandparents’ ranch.
If you’d like to learn more about how you can bring resilience training to your community, family or classroom please get in touch.
